DRHS present a lecture on The Ambulance Trains in Ireland during the First World War by Mr.Charles Friel at 3.00pm on Saturday December 1st at The County Museum, Jocelyn Street, Dundalk.
Charles Friel brings us the hidden stories of two Ambulance Trains which operated in Ireland during the Great War of 1914 to 1918 transporting casualties to hospitals. One train provided by GNR(I)was based in Belfast while the other based in Dublin came from the Great Southern and Western Railway. Both trains were converted from existing carriages and vans either at Dundalk or Inchicore.
The fully illustrated talk will use many Dundalk Works drawings as well as maps, diagrams and photos to tell the story of “The Hospital Train”. The research is still ongoing and the talk will include some very recent discoveries. Voluntary contributions at door. Tea/coffee available afterwards.
